It is recommended by Dr. Ayres, the Colonial Surgeon that the salary of the appointment of Assistant Apothecary should commence at $960 per annum, and should rise by annual increments of $48 to a maximum of $1200, and that he should have Quarters given him at the Hospital, as it is most essential that he should reside on the premises. There will therefore be an increase of only a few dollars over the estimated when the new Officer is drawing the maximum of his salary.
I beg strongly to recommend that a competent person be selected at home and sent out for this post. The necessary qualifications for the office will be found referred to here.
